We believe in grass-root initiatives, individual and collective endeavours, local or big-scale ecological studies to better understand and promote conservation actions. In 2010, we founded a NGO, Boomerang for Earth Conservation (BEC), to develop and run independent conservation projects focusing on protecting biodiversity while working closely with local communities. Four years in and we cannot but acknowledge that the potential of many conservation projects that we have been involved in is too often undermined for lack of financial or human resources and skills. As a consequence, a lot of valuable ecological data collected have not reached their full potential and their results have not been passed on to decision makers. Through the DodoBase Initiative, we can provide assistance to NGOs, grass-root, national and international groups and make sure that data are not left behind but are effectively used to help us better understand our impact on the planet and find innovative solutions to reduce our footprint.
